An overview of Umhlanga Arch 2018

21 December 2018, Friday

As we down tools over the festive period, it gives us great pleasure to look back on 2018 and see exactly what Umhlanga Arch has achieved.

Residential sell out success

The first half of the year we announced the sell-out success of our 162 state-of-the-art, smart apartments and 30 spacious lofts. The sales results were triggered by the incomparable lifestyle, high tech savvy fixtures, the convenience of having everything you need on your doorstep and the prominent location.

Introducing KZN firsts

It was always the goal to ensure Umhlanga Arch creates something Durban has yet to see and in doing so we have partnered with incredible businesses. To start we were proud to announce the partnership with the Hilton Hotel brand as we welcome the first Hilton Garden Inn to KZN at Umhlanga Arch. The 207-guestroom hotel, which is expected to be complete in 2020, is a game-changing partnership, that will not only be a perfect fit for international and local travellers but will complement the business hub of this bespoke, mixed-use development.

Additionally, the development team and partners revealed the plan to introduce Durban’s first-ever European-inspired high-street. Although this concept stemmed from an international concept, the Umhlanga Arch high street will fully support locally-based businesses.  The partnership between Umhlanga Arch and Rembrothers was announced towards the end of 2017. This collaboration intends to create a retail experience that brings the best of global trends and fuses them into one bespoke development offering. The vision behind KwaZulu-Natal’s first-ever European high street is to create convenience, explore creativity and celebrate uniqueness.

Big names move to Umhlanga Arch

The year kicked-off with the announcement of the new partnership with SMG BMW, a top South African motor dealer group. SMG Umhlanga will engulf the BMW enthusiast in an experience that no other dealership has created in KZN before. These luxury BMWs will be displayed and featured in a spectacular new dealership that boasts double volume staircases, giving customers a sense of arrival and creating a truly modernised BMW experience.

The office spaces within Umhlanga Arch have also started gaining traction with top performing businesses securing their headquarters at their offices. One of these businesses is a global investment company, Multiply Group, who have announced that it is set to make Umhlanga Arch’s state-of-the-art, 1500m² office their new South African headquarters. This space showcases the best of KwaZulu-Natal views, in particular, 180° sea views accentuated by floor to ceiling glass windows.

Construction progress

It has been full steam ahead for the construction team onsite since we broke ground in October 2017. Just a little over a year and we are proud to state that our construction is already 45% complete. As we approach the halfway mark, the team can confirm that approximately 32 542m³ concrete has already been poured to date.

The foundations, columns and slabs for levels 0 to 7 are 100% complete. The office, residential and hotel cores are at level 4. Loft units are currently under construction with brickwork, plastering and conduiting. On the SMG level -5 façade glazing installation is in progress. The hotel mock-up room and design co-ordination is currently underway.

As you can see, a lot has happened within the space of a year and we are proud to see how our vision is becoming a reality with every milestone achieved.
